Getting Started

By February 3, 2015Thoughts On Sewing & Life

Starting something new can be difficult.

Even though I’ve been thinking about and excited about starting this blog for weeks, I am terrified of actually starting. Writing the first post, publishing it, letting the world see my words, my ideas, my opinions – it is a little scary. It is a little like making that first cut into your expensive silk lace… or wool… or [insert fabric type here]. The garment will never get made, if you don’t make that first cut of the pattern.

So, I am doing it. I’m starting a blog that I hope will help other professional working moms like me feel empowered to be both a successful professional and a successful mother.

Now, I do not begin to suggest I’ve got it all figured out; in fact, I believe there are many lessons I have to learn about being more organized and productive to increase the quality time I have to spend with my boys. I hope that when I share things I’ve learned or created here, readers will provide me with their insight and experiences – we can all improve together!

Homemaking and caring for my family is a huge stress reliever for me. Sewing, in particular (after the kiddos are snugly tucked in bed) is very relaxing for me… so naturally I want to learn more about it! I want to do more sewing and push myself to try different and new techniques to challenge my skills.

I intend to use this blog to chronicle my sewing projects and continue self-teaching myself new techniques with reader input and advice. I get really excited to start new sewing projects and then tend to have my enthusiasm dwindle as I work toward completion. Posting my progress here will keep me accountable to finishing my projects! (At least I hope.)

Thanks for reading my first post. Phew! That’s done… now onto the fun stuff!

Oh, and I’m starting my first pattern making class on Thursday… wish me luck!
